The NBAA conference this year was an amazing opportunity for those of us in Business Aviation to connect with old and new friends while working to expand our client base. While it was Prime Propulsion's first year in attendance, it gave us a chance to connect with current clients face to face and directly look into the movement of the industry. The type of vendor booths ranged from companies with 2 or 3 employees selling used parts all the way to Airplane and Engine OEMs and everything in between. The breath of vendors ensures there is a company there that everyone could benefit from.
Covid Rebound:
I was told this year's conference was well attended compared to the last couple years, great news aviation is coming back strong! While talking to PMA and STC companies, they were very optimistic about the growth their companies were experiencing and the aviation market in general. With the increased cost of all products, there has been more willingness for companies to utilize PMA as means of cost reduction. This is great news for all, more PMA will men cheaper operating costs.
Important note: It is important to understand that PMAs have to be equivalent to OEM parts to obtain FAA approval, the decreased cost does not come with increased airworthiness concerns.
Emerging Technology:
The emerging technology of Urban Air Mobility Vehicles and Aerospace electric motors were out in force. I was able to view the Wisk vehicle and Magnix motor up close. The magnix is far along in its development cycle and working towards its Type Certificate. Magnix is currently the leading company in the arena of electric propulsion units (EPUs) for commercial aviation. While Wisk was impressive to see, I will be honest there are still a lot of questions remaining regarding the chances of those type vehicles being profitable with limited range, extensive and expensive certification process. We are all hopeful and it will be great to see how it develops.
Summary:
The NBAA conference was worthwhile and we will be regular attendees at the event. We are looking forward to the NBAA 2023 conference in Las Vegas, Nevada. If we were not able to connect at the conference this year, please contact us here, we would be happy to see how our DER services can help with your PMA, STC, or Test Cell Correlation projects.
