Test Cell Engineering is a specialized focus area where an individual has to have worked in
engine test to understand the systems and be able to properly diagnose and fix the issue. While we typically promote our unique service of assisting companies with test cell correlations, that is not the only area we can be of great assistance. We are available as additional support for your current staff and/or your primary source of test cell knowledge. Review of Test Stand Procedures:
Consistent performance requires a consistent process. We draft and/or review applicable test cell set-up and shutdown procedures to most importantly verify staff safety followed by facility performance. A small list of items that should be considered, leak checks, removing air from the system, review of calibration records, and sequencing of opening and closing valves.
Review and Selection of Mechanical Components:
Understanding your test cell and engine performance requirements are critical to selecting the proper equipment to achieve the desired facility performance. Minimum and maximum fuel flow and pressure, expected valve response time, cleanliness of air system,fuel storage in accumulators, and dome vs spring loaded valves are just some of the factors that would need to be considered and determined how the overall system is performing.
Test Cell Trending:
After a successful test cell correlation, the test facility should trend ( per SAE Document ) parameters deemed important to understand their shift (or lack of). The trending of data gives an insight into test cell performance over time. Any trend towards a control line should be investigated and understood to ensure correlation remains valid.
